DH Hornets fly under bridge

Hi guys,

In March 1949 1 or 2 DH Hornets from 64 Squadron reportedly flew under the Forth Railway Bridge during exercise Forth/Clyde. I've had a look in the Squadron ORB, but there are no details.

Would anyone have any info on this?

Any help appreciated,

Thanks,

Hello,

THE LINTON HORNET WING, RAF LINTON-ON-OUSE.

No.64 Squadron.

1949.

During March 6th, 12th and 13th, Operation Forth/Clyde involved the squadron in sorties to Bishopbriggs and Abbotsinch when P.II Hartley* with his No.2 flew under the Forth Bridge, taking cine-film in the process. On return he faced a cool reception, explaining in his defence that briefing had clearly stipulated not flying above fifty feet.

*No.64 Squadron Pilots - N.C.Os - W/O (later P.II) J. Hartley p.66).

The Hornet File.
Cooper,Lewis G.
Tonbridge: Air-Britain(Historians),1992.
p.62.
