RAF 61st Squadron Daniel Dunkley August 1944
I'd like to ask the RAF especialists for help.
I am looking for photos of an unknwon RAF 61st crew which was shot down on an air raid on Groß-Gerau in 1944 (August 25th/26th). Their target should have been Darmstadt but they failed with the markers and bombed Gross-Gerau and Ruesselsheim. One of the survivors of one or two crashed planes (I assume bombers) was Flight Sergeant Daniel Dunkley, 1016935. I need this information for an exhibition on the lynchings of Americans Air men in Groß-Gerau in August 1944. Thank you very much for your help! |

The aircraft was Lancaster III PA998 QR-O of 61 Sqn and crashed near Gross Gerau on the night of 25-26.08.44 The crew was F/L E R Church RCAF Pilot - Died Sgt D Dunkley RAF Flight Engineer - POW F/O S A Fleming RCAF Navigator - POW W/O1 W E Lewis RCAF Bomb Aimer - POW Sgt T Moffat RAF Wireless Operator - Died Sgt A J Anderson RCAF Mid Upper Gunner - Died Sgt F Kohut RCAF Rear Gunner - Died NB The RAF did not use ordinals st, nd, rd, th in its naming of units- the squadron is No. 61 Squadron RAF.
