Gr Kdr III/KG 26

Following the injuring of Hptm Ernst-Heinrich Thomsen in an accident on 21 July 42, Hptm Moeller took command of III/KG 26-would this have been Hptm Ernst-Guenther Moeller?

Hello Chris,

according to Rudi Schmidt's KG 26, page 249 Hptm Ersnt Thomsen was Gruppenkommandeur of III./KG 26 from Feb 42 - 21 July 42. Htpm Möller took over command afterwards till Sept 42 - strange however is that his name is not listed in the appendix with names...

Rob: Thanks for this. I know that there was confusion with the Gr Kdr with Thomsen coming from KGr 506 to KSG 2 to then be Gr Kdr only to be injured in an accident at Angers on 21 July. Schmidt mentions Moeller and his name appears on Verlustemeldung but then he disappears; a Maj Ernst-Guenther Moeller then gets the DKiG as Ia for X Fliegerkorps which could match?
