Wildcat Serial Numbers and Data Plates

I have a data plate from an FM-1. It has 2 serial numbers on it...was curious if anyione may have any info on it?

data reads:

MFR. Model - GM-1
Serial No. - 547
Navy Model FM-1 Class VF
Serial Number - 15351
Date Mfg. 6 27 43 Motor - R-1830-86

TIA!

Mike

Re: Wildcat Serial Numbers and Data Plates

Mr. Baugher's great website tells us that USN BuAer number 15351 was an FM-1, while 547 could be a Helldiver or an Avenger. Given the order the numbers appear on youre plate, I think that 547 is a manufacturer's serial number (or company number) while 15351 is the USN serial number.

Yup...547 is the manufacture serial...as it is right next to the Manufacture Model NUmber.

Is there any website that has a list of serials? Would be curious to know if there is any history on this particular aircraft...

;)

Request the Aircraft History Card for FM-1 BuNo. 15351.
http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/arch/emailform.cfm

It's free and will show up at your door in a couple of weeks.
