RAF Leaflet Dropping: 1939-40

Apart from the Whitley, Wellington and Hampden, were other RAF a/c types employed on this duty in '39-'40?

Cheers,

Bruce

I haven't come across any evidence of a Blenheim Nickel sortie per se, but that does not mean that they did not drop leaflets as well as more serious cargo

Thanks Martin & Graham.

Can anyone confirm the use of Blenheims on leaflet dropping?

Not that I know much about early-war ops, but I'd never heard of Blenheims or Battles dropping leaflets.

There wouldn't be much room for leaflets in Blenheims would there? … even less in Battles!

Here are some examples of initial Battle sorties involving nickelling

16-Mar-40 N 226 Nickel Battle 1 Mannheim
18-Mar-40 N 226 Nickel Battle 1 Mannheim
N 88 Nickel Battle 1 Mannheim, Saarbrucken
20-Mar-40 N 103 Nickel Battle 1 Koblenz

The operations go on into April 1940, if you are interested get the ORBs for the AASF sqns 12, 88,103, 105, 142, 150, 218, 226 they were all involved

The sorties involved a night recce component looking for movement on the Rhine and other routes and also the dropping of nickels in cities like Mannheim etc
