If you ask me, the two plates you have attached (the He 111 as well) do not look like airframe numbers (WNr). No He 177 (or He 111) had a WNr like that. Perhaps part number plates, or (heaven forbid) fakes? Cheers Stig |

Re: A beautiful He1777 plate
Hello,
Would it not be possible that the He 177 to which this plate belonged, was the 1st prototype of this aircraft : that manufactured in Rostock by Heinkel Flugzeugwerke, having made its 1st flight on November 2, 1939, and which - according to JR Smith and EJ Creek authors of the book "Heinkel 177 Greif" (page 192) - was of type V1, Werknummer 0001. The following mentions of the plate could plead for this hypothesis: - 1 (it would be the Werknummer) - V1 (this would be the type) - 10.39, namely October 1939, acceptance date of the aircraft And a first flight only a few weeks later ... a "normal" (?) deadline for a quite new prototype aircraft. What do He 177 specialists think of this hypothesis ? Pierre Babin |
Re: A beautiful He1777 plate
The origin of the plate may help (location, and, perhaps, in PM, the identity of its owner).

Re: A beautiful He1777 plate
salut Nicolas
the owner bought it from a gentleman in Brussels who collected many WWII items in the 50's but he died in the 90's. So, unfortunately, no background as to the history of this plate.. Cheers and stay safe, stay at home ! Gilles |
