Flying Officer Woodwark, 615 Squadron, 1939 -1940

Hello,

I am seeking information about a Flying Officer Woodwark, who was part of No.615 Squadron in early 1940.

He is mentioned for the first time, in the ORB, on 17 december 1939, when he was assigned to Squadron (with Pilot Officer Petrus Hendrik Hugo)
- "Pilot Officer P.H. Hugo and Flying Officer C.E. Bowen reported to this Unit. Flying Officer C.E. Bowen was transferred to No.617 Squadron and Flying Officer Woodwark was posted to this Unit in his place".

He is also mentioned in the ORB on the following dates :
- 27 december 1939 : Operations from St.Inglevert : Patrols + Escorts for leave boat, 12h30 - 13h50 (N5590)
- 29 december 1939 : Operations from St.Inglevert : Patrols + Escorts for leave boat, 14h50 - 15h15 (N2303)
- 30 december 1939 : Operations from St.Inglevert : Patrols + Escorts for leave boat, 13h15 - 14h15 (N2304)
- 6 january 1940 : Patrol A Line, St.Inglevert, 08h45 - 10h05 (N5899)
- 11 march 1940 : Affiliation exercice commanced at Poix with Blenheim aircraft of 55 and 59 Squadron. Three aircraft and the following Pilots took part. F/O Young, F/O Woodwark.
- 29 march 1940 : Patrol, 12h50 - 13h45 (N5899.

He is not mentioned, in the document, after 29 march 1940.

I have not found, in the ORB, Forename or Initials in order to identify him.

Does anyone have any informations / details about him ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Flying Officer Woodwark, 615 Squadron, 1939 -1940

81422 Peter Anthony Stanley Woodwark or
37842 George Stuart Woodwark

Both appear in the London Gazette 1939-40. Mindful the latter was promoted to Flt Lt in Sep 40 and the former appears to have been commissioned in 1940, I believe that George Stuart Woodwark is your man (who survived the war)

Then you have this for the latter:

Re: Flying Officer Woodwark, 615 Squadron, 1939 -1940

Hello,

Thank you for the answer.

During my research, I found the names of three Woodwark
- George Arthur Woodwark (77404), but only Commissioned Pilot Officer on 27 january 1940, which seems too late to match with the F/O Woodwark of 615 Squadron.
- Peter Anthony Stanley Woodwark (81422), but but the same as the previous, only Pilot Officer on 28 june 1940.

George Stuart Woodwark seems to fit. Flying Officer in 1939 and Flight Lieutnant on november 1940. But I have no concrete evidence that this is the same person as the Woodwark of No.615 Squadron.

And I had hoped to find the answer on the forum.

But thank you for the reply that confirms my initial hypothesis. I will continue my research in this direction.
