Luftwaffe Night Fighter claims, and time

What does the time of a claim actually mean? Is it the time guns were fired, the moment when the victim was definitively going down or the moment that the victim hit the ground?

I’m trying to tie some night fighter claims to sightings by other, bomber command, a/c.

Someone must know this!
