#1) Bf109A 6-11 arrived in Spain March 1937 flown by Uffz Adolf Buhl with VK/88, afterwards by Lt.Rolf Pingel with 2.J/88
#3) Bf109V4 6-1 prototype for A-series, arrived in Spain December 1936 flown by Lt.Hannes Trautloft with VK/88 (with the "Grünherz" badge), afterwards by Oblt.Herwig Knüppel with 2.J/88 (Watch the absolute clean engine cover without cooling slots and the wooden Schwarz prop preventing the use of the engine-mounted MG)
#6) a Bf109A (wooden prop) IMHO the blade tips are not painted, but made of different material (metal as reinforcement of the blade tip. The leading edges of the Schwarz prop blade had a thin metal reinforcement strip, too)

Re: 15/05 - Legion Condor Bf109s on eBay

Hello Roland,

Thank you very much for matching up known J88 pilot names to the Bf-109As with matricules of o6-1 and o6-11. Can you please do the same for those who were assigned to Bf-109As with matricules of o6-2 through o-6-16? Recently, at this website, I learned o6-12 was used by Fw. Peter Boddem and Uffz. Hermann Stange. Others I am aware of are:
o6-1 by Oblt. Hannes Trautloft, Oblt.Herwig Knüppel
o6-3 by Uffz. Erich Kley
o6-4 by Uffz. Guido Honess
o6-6 by Uffz. Herbert Ihlefeld
o6-7 by Fw. Norbert Flegel
o6-9 by Hptm. Gotthard Handrick
o6-10 by Oblt. Gunther Lutzow, Uffz. Ernst Mratzic, Oblt. Joachim Shlichting, ?
o6-11 by Uffz. Adolf Buhl and Lt. Rolf Pingel
o6-12 by Fw. Peter Boddem and Uffz. Herbert Stange
o6-13 by Uffz. Harbach, Uffz. Guido Honess and Fw. Heinz Braunschweiger
o6-15 by Uffz. Otto Polenz
No doubt other pilots also used the planes with matricules listed above.

Ken Glass

My references indicate that 6*2 was flown by Lt. Paul Rehahn. The aircraft was destroyed in an accident on 11 February 1937, or there about.

6*16 seems to have been passed around with the last pilot flying it being Lt. Josef Fözö of 3./J88

Concerning Versuchsjagdstaffel VJ/88 Patrick Laureau states that "each of the Bf 109s was allocated to a specific pilot in order of seniority, 6-1 to 6-13 (less 6-2 which had already been lost) were issued in this order:
Knüppel, Strümpell, von Gilsa, von Bothmer, Schlaffer, Pingel, Heilmayer, Gödecke, Mratzek, Buhl, Boddem and Haarbach.
Numbers 6-14, 6-15 and 6-16 remained in reserve."
