Hello,

51-10456
an F-84, that ended up with the Turkish Air Force.
What was its previous USAAF service ?
I think it served in the Korean war.

Marilyn Monroe was certainly in Korea during January 1954.

What can be seen of the back ground certainly looks like Korea

Several units in Korea carried chevron stripes such as 58 FBW and 474 FBW so 51-10456 is not unique. Since 51-10454 was flown by 58 FBW's leader Col Joe Davis Jr, which is no evidence as such, but maybe your '10456' was also with that unit?

Hi Stig. These Groups / Wings used slightly different styles of chevrons, this is probably 58th ( 3 black-yellow with a short one at the front) in Korea.

I think the name is "Mountaineer" or a variation. 456 went to Turkey on 26-5-55.
The 58th c/o's F-84G had commander's red-yellow-blue chevrons as per pre-war colours, at Taegu.
These are the Turkish ex-USAF Thunderjets (456 part-way down).

Thanks Stig and Nick,
Was hoping for something that would give the full name on the side, so "Mountaineer " would seem to fit the bill.
A/c would have "FS-456" on the nose. Wonder what the Lieutenant 's name was ?
