Rolf Ebhardt

I'm not sure whether this has been posted previously, but I've only just been informed today, that former Leutnant Rolf Ebhardt passed away in March 2013.

Was anyone else aware of his passing?

Rolf operated with 8./NJG 1 from the summer of 1944 to war's end, credited with 8 victories. A fine man.

Hi David,

Can I ask how you heard about Rolf, I had the pleasure of meeting him in 2008 with regard to his last kill, JB603.

I hadn't heard this news and just wanted to know the details please.

Hi Paul,

I tried calling Rolf but his number was unavailable. I then found a comment on a site Rolf used to be a member of and a patient of his announced his death last year.

Sad news but time slows for no-one.

Hi David,

Very sad to hear that Rolf has passed away,as I mentioned I met him with regard to his last kill. I traced him on the internet and two weeks later met him at the Aces High Gallery. I arrived as the event was finishing and thought I had missed my chance to meet to talk with him, but he insisted that I came to dinner with him. We sat and talked for over two hours, and he seemed amazed that I had such an interest in his time during the war, sadly his own children had no interest presumably the whole stigma of the war meant that they saw it as something to be ashamed of.

The lasting regret is I had contact two years ago when he was due over here again but I was unable to go, I would have loved to have recorded the conversation.

Hopefully his flying Log and the pictures he had have found a good home and not been lost forever to the bin, he really was a nice man and glad to say I met him.

If you find anymore details about where he is laid to rest please let me know, if ever I'm in Germany I would like to pay my respect.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Rolf married late in life and both his son and daughter are in the their late 30s now. His son was interested in his career and has his father's medals etc.

I do have a complete copy of all of his photographs and probably a copy of his Flugbuch somewhere in my system. I also have recorded accounts of his 8 victories given to me by him.

All the best,

David

Hi David

I have a website dedicated to Lancaster JB603,part of the site is about the night she was lost and I plan to have a page about Rolf. I have a picture of him but would be grateful if you could let me have any other pictures that I could include, he did e mail me the page from his log for that night.

Kind Regards

Paul
