27th FG/522nd FS lossJanuary 1945

Hello,
Seeking details of the loss of 1Lt. Silvio R. Vinciguerra - O-820368.
Finding of death date is 13th January 1946.
So actual date of death would have been 12th January 1945 ?
I can find no 27th FG MACR or accident loss between the 4th and 17th of January 1945.
Anyone have anything ?
Alex

Hello Alex,
Actual date of death is 13th January 1944. No further info, but around this date 27th converted to older P-40s (because of lack of A-36s).
Just found this at http://raf-112-squadron.org/27thfghonor_roll43-44.html
13-Jan-44 Vinciguerra, Silvio R. O-820368 522FS 27FBG 12AF KIA Florence

The date of death has to be in January, 1945. He was only commissioned 2nd Lt on 22 January, 1944 when he turned 18.

The family was notified on February 6, 1945, which is about 3 weeks after the loss, which was typical. His brother noted that he was lost a few days before his 19th birthday.

There are a couple of Italian websites that mention him and the MACR. The MACR does exist but not on fold3. His plane was apparently a P-47D-25-RE.

The serial number listed on the Italian site can't be correct, but it could be something "like" 42-26712. Note that, for example 42-26720, according to Joe Baugher's site, was in the 27th FG, 522nd FS.

According to the Air Force Chronology, there were no tactical missions on 13 January, 1945 due to the weather, but there were some flown on 12 January to the Po valley.

Thank you both
,
The info is helpful.

But the date I gave - 13th January 1946, is the FOD date.
This would normally give date of death to be 12th January, 1945.
Which would fit the Po valley ops on the 12th.

Your thoughts ?

The 522nd FS Daily Operations Report notes the loss of P-47D-25RE 42-26712. Time would be around 0915. Location of the attack, a railroad bridge, is given as B-3116. Pilot of the lost aircraft is not named. Mission was flown Rimini to Venice to target area.

Enjoy!

Frank.

That location would be in/near Fonzaso which is just NNW of Venice.

Thank you Frank,
Sure looks like it was 42-26712..

Reason for question was that I was looking through DPAA list for Italy 1946.

The only a/c in the list that did go down in 1946 that had Mia's was the 1304 AAF BU, C-54E - 44-9078, MACR 16085, Cornett, Ingle, Lindblom, Michalie and Schweitzer.

The other three listed were Fighter Pilots, and dates given were FOD dates.
Vinciguerra, Aron and Hadley.
