Hurricane serial number?
Does anyone have a picture of the location that the serial number can be found on a Hurricane. A lend-lease Hurricane remains was found in Russia but not sure where to look for the number on the fuselage.

Re: Hurricane serial number?
Thank you udf 00 but I am looking for the manufacturing plate number inside the aircraft.

Re: Hurricane serial number?
Left side of cockpit, bolted to the top (forward) end of the strut extending from beneath the seat to the joint at the left bottom edge of the instrument panel. If you find it I would be interested to learn the manufacturer's number you find on it.

Re: Hurricane serial number?
Geoff, I was just told that section of the plane was missing.

Re: Hurricane serial number?
Nokose,
Tell them to look at any removable panels. http://www.lend-lease.airforce.ru/en...rricane_16.jpg Also there is a plate on the leading edge of the wing. http://www.lend-lease.airforce.ru/en...rricane_19.jpg regards Mark |
Re: Hurricane serial number?
Nokose,
A pity if it's missing. That part is in the core of the aircraft's structure. So, are you dealing with a substantial section or just fragmented wreckage? Either way it leaves Mark's 'removable panel' suggestion as the way ahead. Mark, I'm not aware of a plate on the wing leading edge, just stencil marks. Are you suggesting that the Z5252 plate in your photo came from there? Regards Geoff |
Re: Hurricane serial number?
Geoff,
From what I recall, the plate was on the starboard side inboard of the outer wing panel. It was 10 years ago. I never knew there was a plate here either! I will try and look through the photos I have. regards Mark |
Re: Hurricane serial number?
Hello Mark, I was informed that the outer "skin" was stripped away from the aircraft leaving the frame. They have contacted the person who recovered the Hurricane in the pictures but hoping to maybe find something buried or at the scene now. They have all the known Hurricane losses but no way to connect to it. As I've noticed for some reason the German pilots many times referred to Hurricanes in Russia as "MiG-3" on shooting them down.
