Re: Capt Alexandre GC II/2

There is nothing on his death in "The battle of France then and now" or "Ils étaient là". And I don't find him either on the French WWII war dead database at http://www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defe...ale/index.php?

On the site https://www.passionair1940.fr, there are crew lists for French air units in 1940, with some complete names I have not seen elsewhere, but here again (https://www.passionair1940.fr/Armee%...-2/GC_II-2.htm) there is only his family name.

He survived the crash of a D501 on 13 April 1938, but still no Christian name.... I really don't undertstand why French documents are using so few Christian names, but it has been a big problem for me since years.

I tried to check some French newspapers of April 1938 in cas the accident was reported, and found a Bloch 210 crash on 12 April (not reported in my list of accidents that was available once on the website of the Service Historique de la Défense) and a fighter on the 13rd, but this case is a fatal crash (three D.501 of the 2e Escadre de Chasse had accidents this same day, including Alexandre and the case reported in the newspapers). By the way, the full name of the kileld pilot, Fernand Cailhol, is given while the names of the five crew of the Block, some of them being heavily wounded, were not.

Some more accidents, with newspapers reports and pictures, but still no Christian name...

Hi Chris,

On 12 june 1940 Cne Jean Alexandre posted from 4ème Escadrille of GC II/2 to Commandant en second of GC II/2.

He died on 21/10/1952 in French Indiochinia.

Of course we can forget passionair which is a site of compilation anf full up of mistakes.

Bertrand-thanks. One record said killed 13 May 40, another said killed June 40!

This is what I found in various sources

Re: Capt Alexandre GC II/2

I confirm that there is indeed a mistake: Captain (Jean) Alexandre is listed in the GC II / 2 staff at least until June 15th ... There was no casualty in this group near Montdidier in May 13th. This topic allows to renew the database :)
