Loss Ju.88 9./KG30 (KG3?) on 19th April 1944

Dear researchers,

On 19th April 1944 a Ju.88 of 9./KG30 was lost over the North Sea. One of its occupants, Uffz Horst Kaschinsky, ErkM 62707/166, washed ashore at 04.00 hrs on 8th June 1944 near the village of Callantsoog, some 10 miles South of Den Helder, The Netherlands. His body was buried two days later at the cemetery of Huisduinen near Den Helder.

I've consulted one of the few publications concerning Luftwaffe losses in 1944 (however mainly UK related) The Blitz Then And Now, Volume 3 by Winston G. Ramsey. This loss was very briefly mentioned in the night of 18/19th April, however the unit being 9./KG3 (typo?).

It's difficult to identify Luftwaffe losses in 1944 without WASt material, but perhaps somebody has a clue which might led to the identity of this Ju.88 or the correct unit (KG30 or KG3?) or even the names of the other crew members?

Thanks in advance,

Hans Nauta

Hi Hans,

As a new member I have only seen your question recently. From Luftwaffe NVM the Ju 88 belonged to 9/KG 30 and was missing from the attack on London on 18/19th April 1944 :-

Ff Uffz. Rudi Mann vermisst
B Uffz. Gerhard Gerlach "
Bf Uffz. Horst Kaschinski " b. 26-12-1916
Bs Uffz. Karl Wilhelm "
