FAA Albacore loss on 4 July 1941

Hello,

I am seeking the details of a Fairey Albacore which was lost on 4 July 1941 offshore Adalia (Antalya) - Turkey.

According to Christopher Shores's book "Dust Clouds in the Middle East", it was a FAA Albacore of 829 Sqn, operating from Cyprus. It was lost after it torpedoed and sank the 2778 GRT French merchant ship "Saint Didier" at Adalia Harbour.

I have another source stating that it was not 829, but 826 Sqn Albacores which made the attack. The Saint Didier had at least 3 attacks on that day before it anchored at Adalia Harbour. Some of these attacks might have been done by 826 and 829 Sqn, as both units were operating in the area.

Some time ago, I have asked FAA for the details of this loss, but got no reply. I will be glad if you can provide any help.

Regards,

Batur
