Seenotdiestfuhrer Eduard Engelhorn,DKiG

Do you have any information on about Eduard Engelhorn who belongs to a Seenotdiest. He was a German Cross in Gold holder. Little was known about him when I found on Traces of War website. Did he survived WWII? Any information about him is fine.

Gentlemen, I am disappointed that there were no German airmen in the Seenotdiest(Air Rescue) that had the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. I know there were German Cross in Gold holders in the Seenotdiest.

Wasn't there an RK recipient in North Africa who had the nickname Abu Markub?

Edward Hsiao,

Seems to be an interesting topic that has not been deeply written about. I remember several RAF rescue airmen being awarded with the DSO for these kind of Search and Rescue (SAR) missions.
Do you happen to know how many sorties Oberst Engelhorn flew? Did he received the DKiG for a special sortie or for his overall tour of duties?

VtwinVince: Could you, if possible, inform us the full name of the nicknamed "Abu Markub"? Guess me and several others do not know him by his nickname....only a handful will be able to guess who he is....and from what unit.

An interesting topic, nevertheless.

Found it now: Hauptmann Kroseberg was posthumously awarded the Ritterkreuz on 19 June 1942. This had been his 161st operational fligh

By the way, those who like kit models will be astonished by the lovely Storch displayed on this link....very well done to Andy.

Sorry about that, I was indeed referring to Kroseberg.

For Kroseberg:

Fi 156C-3/trop, WNr.5591, KROSEBERG, Hptm. Heinz, 1./Wüstennotst., SF+RL, 12-May-42, Crew MIA during rescue mission over sea, cause unknown., F RK (posthumous)., Ob.Bhf.Süd/Afrika, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #6)-Vol.9; Piekalkiewicz, Fi 156 im Zweiten Weltkrieg, p.130 photo; Model Art #356, p.127 photo, Rosch, Lw Support Units, p.79, 70km nördlich Derna, 100%, F, Bs Uffz. Walter Büchner, Fieseler Flzg.Werke Kassel in Mar/Apr-42

No reference to Engelhorn among seaplane losses. What other aircraft types might he have been flying?
