Ritterkreuzträger Hans Döbrich/Röll

The above book has just been published in Finnish. The Finnish edition has no reference notes so I wonder does the German edition have them? Considering that the book has some dialogue and "inner thought" of Döbrich, I am a bit uncomfortable about such a biography without proper referencing. If even the German edition lacks these, one must question why? The Finnish Publisher of the book has stated that "reference notes distract readers". Just recently I got Kristen Alexander's bio of Jack Davenport. She has noted her book very thoroughly.

Hi Jukka,

no, there are no reference notes in the original German edition either.

Thanks for the info, Raimo! I wish that when choosing biographies for translation Koala would select ones with solid reference notation and archival research as the basis. We Finns already have the misfortune of Jukka Piipponen's combination of invented dialogue & descriptions of events which Piipponen cannot base on solid evidence, uncritical hero worship (that plagues Finnish FAF literature in general) and dangerously close plagiarization (just compare some of starting and taking-off descriptions to those in Jukka Raunio's books).

There are plenty of photos in the Finnish edition. I am no photo expert, so I cannot say whether the photos are rare (for me the quality of the photo is always more important than "previously unpubished").

..not interested in rarity as such, but balance of 'aircraft' photos vs pilot 'portraits' for example. Thanks

Is it known if an English version will be produced? Thank you.

Hi all,

regarding photos, I´d say it is a good combination of pilot portraits, airplanes and "everyday life" at Petsamo airfield (and other Northern Finland airfields). Many photos are from Friedrich Trenz collection. A few color photos taken in Vienna in 1944 are also included. At that time Döbrich was still in his hometown recovering from his wounds.

You can get a glimpse of the content from the publisher´s homepage:

http://www.koalakustannus.fi/kirjat/...php?id_prd=227

Just click "Lukunäyte" and 15 page pdf file will open.

At least I don´t have any knowledge about plans for English edition.

Best regards

Raimo
