Bf109E W.Nr. 3762
I'm interested in information on this, so far, elusive airplane. Any information whatsoever would be very much appreciated. Please help solve the mystery of its service. Thank you.

Steve,
At first look, it seems this Bf 109 E-4 was without any special history...just your garden variety Emil of 1940. Hal |
Re: Bf109E W.Nr. 3762
"... without any special history....," that's what's odd! The main ID plate for this airplane survives. It was unearthed at RAF Kenley back in the 80s, part of the haul of similar plates collected by RAF intelligence during the war and disposed of by mass ground burial sometime thereafter. So this plane, or what was left of it, was in British hands at some point. It's hoped that evidence of that capture will surface and/or that surviving German records will reveal something. So far, however, nothing.

If it is a Kenley plate, could it have come from an early 109 loss/capture where the Wk Nrs were not recorded by the Luftwaffe?
