Home built full scale Me262

Good evening all

I don't know if it really qualifies as a scratch built kit, but it is a model of (or will be hopefully one day) an Me262 full scale. It's in the early stages of planning, measuring and jigging. The internal structure is not super critical as it will be covered and finished as required. I'm hoping to make it the only Me262 in Canada since the 1950's when AM 52 and 80 were here and later scrapped, buried, etc. I had worked on building another full scale replica of an A.V Roe CF-105 Arrow with a number of others, which is usually housed in the Canadian Air and Space Museum in Toronto, but due to issues it is currently stored at an airport in Toronto.
Since I don't have access to the same workshop as I did in the past it will be built in sections starting with the nose section first ( hopefully before the snow comes) then stored until spring. Also, wood as opposed to metal due to lack of materials and equipment.
For the time being I only have this one photo to show but it will get better.

Thanks for looking

Best regards

Vince..

Hello All

Update, moving along slowly, poor quality photos from iphone, but nonetheless a little progress. Now need to get some 1/8 inch Birch flexible plywood and do some cover up and start working on the nose cone.

Dear Vince,

There have been 2 or 3 homebuilt reproductions out of wood. I would suggest that you keep a good photographic record of your progress with decent resolution images.

Regards,
Richard

Hello all

I've been busy with so many other things that I rarely have time to visit and update, hoping that will change soon.
Just one picture update on progress. Did some skinning today and worked on the nose cone during the winter months (pink Styrofoam and covered with drywall compound). It will be a plug for a fiber glass part. With the nicer weather I'm hoping to get some more work done.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Regards

Sorry I haven't updated this post much (or any others) I have been occupied with other pressing issues. I manage to look in on occasion to try and keep up.
Over the summer I managed to cover the starboard side of the nose with flex board and I had to begin rebuilding the nose as the foam one didn't fit properly.
The port side is completely covered with cardboard as a template before cutting wood. The entire project consists of templates, so far the fuselage from nose to tail, measure twice, cut once idea.
I have made a template (mock up) of the gun port and pulled a quick fiberglass test copy of it.
Using best guesstimates for it's dimensions, as I don't have a real one to compare it with but it looks close enough.
The gaps will be covered with putty and smoothed out, a rough loose fit right now, once everything is permanently attached the surface will be cosmetically corrected.
For now the project is in storage in the shed as winter is here and the garage is being used for the automobile.

That's about it for now, thanks for looking and all comments welcome.

Regards

Vince...

PS: Happy Holidays and all the best in 2017
