Leutnant Schön - KIA 27 May 1941
 

Dear all,

I am looking (have already tried LW Officers List by De Zeng and Kracker Archives but with no joy) for information about a certain Leutnant SCHÖN, killed in action on the 27th May 1941.

It may be possible that he was a Fallschirmjäger killed at Malème, not an airman as I originally thought.

Have found no references yet about him...

His name does not appear in the Luftwaffe losses, and German War Graves does not have him buried at Malame, Crete.

Certainly not a Paratrooper, Gebirgsjäger or any other German personnel involved in Operation Merkur if he was killed or missing, I have the full loss lists for Crete.

There are two men named Schön killed on that day, Alfred Schön and Franz Schön. Both were Gefreitern on U-Boats.

My schoolboy error above sorry, Alfred and Franz Schön were killed on the Bismarck.

Here's the back of the picture that do inform that a certain Leutnant Schön (or was it only written schôn as an adjectiv?) was killed near Alexandria or going to Alexandria on 27-5-41.
The pictures do shows a Leutnant in LW uniform.

Like you I found the two Schön on the Kriegsmarine, but got no joy with finding a Leutnant on the LW!

Any loss recorded on or near Alexandria on 27-5-1941 by the LW is most welcomed...certainly a Leutnant or Oberleutnant was killed there...
