Re: Mustang losses on the 29th October 1944

Hello Alex,

Norman Franks in RAF Fighter Command Losses, Volume 3, mentions just one loss over northwestern Europe: Mustang I AM191 "R" badly damaged by flak near Venlo in the afternoon during Tac/R cover, aircraft SoC. The aircraft belonged to 430 Sqn RCAF and its pilot F/Lt J B Predergast escaped without injuries.

Hope this helps a little,

Ota

Re: Mustang losses on the 29th October 1944

Hello,

According to Mighty Eighth Combat Chronology,

P51 44-14241 2nd Lt Robert F. Brown MACR 9657 near Borculo ?
P51 44-14835 Lt Joseph F. Davis MACR 9658 near Varsseveld ?

Both were from 364th FG, 385th FS and pilots could escape.

According to Diary of an Airwar, (Zijlstra) 35 P51 from 354th Pioneer Mustang Group were covered by 75 ME 109 and 3 Mustangs were lost. 5See Brown listing ?).

I hope this could help you.
Good luck.

Re: Mustang losses on the 29th October 1944

There seems to be a little confusion on dates here. "Fighter Losses Of The MIghty Eighth" gives the date of 28 October for 44-14241 and 44-14835.

Could it be that they were lost on the 28th but the MACRs were done until the 29th?

As a point of interest no losses are listed for the 29th but on the 30th five are listed.

HTH rather than confusing.
