Peter Piper photo album

Hi all,
Thought that I would share some photos from Peter Pipers photo album.
Peter flew with 236 During the Battle of Britain before joining 7 Squadron at Oakington.
I hope that you enjoy seeing a few pictures from his album, he was a remarkable man.
Any ideas on the ship would be appreciated, I can only assume that he took the picture himself as he flew over it.
Anyhow, hope you like them.
Gerry

Re: Peter Piper photo album

Hallo Gerry,

This has to be the old Italian Armoured Cruiser San Giorgio. It was scuttled on 22 January 1941 when Tobruk was captured. It had been used as a floating battery to support the town's defences. Note the anti-torpedo nets and the background.

Would love to learn anything about his North African service !

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Re: Peter Piper photo album

Hi Martin,
Many thanks for your reply.
As far as I know Peter never served in North Africa, perhaps somebody more expert could confirm that one way or another. Certainly there is no mention in Men of the Battle of Britain about him serving there.
There are only these two pictures that are from the North african campaign, the rest of the albums show mainly Lancaster and Stirling photographs as well as several taken on or around D-day. These include paratroopers in Dakotas and a series taken of a paratrooper making a jump into what looks like a snow covered backdrop.
Pleased you enjoyed them anyway.
Gerry
