Interesting shots of a crashed Fw 200 of KG 40, 1945
 

Gentlemen,

on Ebay I just found this interesting auction: www.ebay.com/itm/THREE-RARE-PHOTOS-CAPTURED-GERMAN-AIRCRAFT-BOMBERS-Fw-200-WWII-WW2-/191576072465?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c9ad2 e111

It includes three photos of a crashed Fw 200, obviously belonging to KG 40, but carrying the code ??+AY. The location written on the backside of this photos looks like "Kölzig", but the only two villages with this name are situated deep inside eastern Germany. So no GI's there in July 1945...

Any infos on this bird?

very rare shots of a Fw 200 - thanks a lot for sharing. The name of the location/city is not Kölzig but König, You can decipher on the other backside inscription.

@Norbert: I just assumed there was no location in Germany named "König" ("king" in english), but obviously there are two: One König is part of Wuppertal, the other is Bad König in Hessen, between Darmstadt and Würzburg. Perhaps our Fw 200 crashed near one of these.

@Nick: I knew I had seen this camo and marking style before :) Thanks! So, Tomas Prusa offers Fw 200 C-1, G6+AY of 14./TG 4 (or Transportstaffel Condor), crashed on 1 April 1945 with an Obfw. Schaffranek at the controls. Sounds good to me.

This unit had G6+AY & G6+FY. Latter was preferred mount of Karl-Heinz Stahnke. I have photos of AY on Rhodes in March 45 and believe that FY was captured at Rhodes together with Schaffranck at the end of the war

Super photos !
This Fw200 started at Micheldorf /Austria on 5th of May 1945 and made an emergency landing near Böllstein (near Bad König, Odenwald). The crew wanted to escape to Northern Germany, but received flak hits when flying over a bridge near Braunau (one engine got out of action)
A member of the crew, ex Uffz Eberhard Schmidt describes this in Luftwaffen Revue 2012, vol.3. Pilot was Uffz Karl-Heinz Friebel. Further people on board were at least Uffz Heinz Kirchoff and two women.

I knew a collector who owned the ladder from this aircraft. He received it from a farmer who removed it from the wreck and used it at his farm for over 50 years.
