Fw-190A-5 Wnr. 151094 - shot down by own Flak 26 Mar 1943

Fw-190A-5 Wnr. 151094 of 10.(Jabo)/JG 2 reportedly bellied after hit by own coastal Flak on 26 March 1943, resulting in a write-off. Pilot OK.

What location is given for this incident? I have a note saying "Wenye", but no such place found so far.

Unit based at Caen-Carpiquet (Normandie) at that time.

Thanks for info.

Regards,
Leendert

10./JG 2 might have been based at Caen but they moved around dependent on target. All I have and Jochen Prien has is Wenye wherever that might be

Hello Leendert,

the Werknummer of this Fw 190 A-5 is listed as 1094 in the GQM loss return and 1084 in JFV 10/IV.
In both sources the loss location is Wenye, perhaps a transmission error or careless handwriting of Veurne.
At this time a part of the 10./JG 2 was based at Caen-Carpiquet, but the greater part of this unit was based at Coxyde between Dunkerque and Ostende (JFV 10/IV pages 511 and 512). Coxyde is not far from Veurne.

Leo

Thanks for info. Found a further suggestion: Wenduine, up the Belgian coast between Oostende/Ostend and Blankenberge.
If so, then pretty much garbled to become Wenye...

Leendert
