Miles prototype shot down by RAF fighter

Hi guys

Here's a new one to me - I have just read that a Miles prototype, type unknown but carrying the letter P in a circle and flown by George Miles, was shot down by an RAF fighter. I am certain someone will have the story. Please enlighten me.
