SC-1 Seahawk - BuNo 35518 - lost 2 Aug 1945 - pilot's name
On 2 Aug 1945 SC-1 Seahawk BuNo 35518 operating from the USS Boston (CL-69) off Kyushu, Japan, was lost during recovery. Plane sank rapidly, no trace of pilot was found after search by escorting destroyer USS Norman Scott (DD-690).
Pilot's name not mentioned in CL-69 war diary, but was he Lt (jg) Newton D. Craymer? Thanks for info. Regards, Leendert |

Those details, including the pilot's name, are correct.
While in his final turn for landing the pilot allowed the left float to drag in the water. It tore off and the aircraft then bounced and dove in. Only the main and one of the wing floats remained on the surface. |
