I think the ski-ramp is something US carriers could imitate. A simple, elegant concept.

Yes Ed, and if I remember correctly it was developed, not from military expertese but from the idea put forward by a naval officers wife who was keen on Skiing.I believe she received a bounty for it?

If I remember my readings correctly, the problem with the ski ramp carriers is that the aircraft can't carry heavy loads, so there is a restriction on payload.
The US catapults allow their a/c to carry a full load.
