31 July 1944 Sldr Le Roux a claim for Fw190

Did Le Roux shoot down an Fw190 on this date? Some sources claim he did, others that his victory was an Fw190 which flew into the ground while chasing him... the mystery is that apparently he was out of ammunition when the Fw190 crashed. Did he use up the ammo during a dogfight that ended in a Fw190 being shot down and then the second Fw190 went down chasing him?

As I have said in a previous post if he was being chased then there'd be no evidence to confirm a kill gained by outmaneuvering another aircraft...and he is a bit of a "Line-Shooter" :). However I know of at least three pilots (Mann, Meagher and Skalski) who are credited with victories in similar circumstances.

The 602 Sqn ORB makes no reference to meeting the Luftwaffe on this Armed Recce, it is more interested in talking about the ground attack that was carried out.

I have seen a time of 17:30 for the claim, this is 5 mins before the ORB says Le Roux landed (17:35)

The NA has a claim in AIR 50/166/51 that can be downloaded, this is for 17.07.44. The site mentions there is a further/other date of combat on 31.07.44 but does not deliver this file

Many thanks Martin. I believe this event has become accepted fact despite lack of evidence other than Le Roux's testimony.

best regards

Keith
