Nachtjagdgeschwader Squadron near Paris 3 June 1944

My uncle Norman Johnston's 405 Pathfinder Squadron Lancaster Aircraft N.D. 507 was shot down on June 3, 1944 at 0100 hours 3 kilometers north east of La Boissiere and 30 kilometers north east of Chartres. Source: R.C.A.F. Casualty Branch P. File No. P417949/44. Information was obtained from German documents.

Of the seven-member crew, five were killed and two survived, but were taken prisoner.

Aircraft Lancaster ND 507 crashed in the woods at La-Boissiere Ecole, B.7/R5227 at 0130 hours 3rd June, 1944, after an attack by fighters.

Could anyone tell me what Nachtjagdgeschwader Squadron would have been covering the area of the Trappes Marshalling Yard south west of Paris on the night of 2/3 June 1944? Are there any records of German "hits" available for research on the Internet?

Thank you for any assistance that you may be able to give.

A number of claims were made by NJG 4 and 5 in that area and that time.

U.K. time and German time were equivalent on the date in question, however is it clear whether the crash was at 0100 or 0130?

The claims which are closest are the ones in the BD sector, as La Boissière (I think the full place name is La Boissière-École) is about halfway between Rambouillet and Dreux. A full grid map can be found at:

Re: Nachtjagdgeschwader Squadron near Paris 3 June 1944

Thank you John Beaman, Dennis Peschier, and mhuxt for your very prompt replies to my question. There were 15 Halifaxes and one Lancaster lost on the operation against Trappes on the night of 2/3 June 1944. I therefore believe that the information that Dennis provided has given me the name and unit of the nightfighter that shot down my uncle's Lancaster as follows:

03.06.44 Ltn. Frithjof Fensch 4./NJG 4 Lancaster £ BE-1/BE-2: 3.700 m. [S.W. Paris] 00.55 Film C. 2027/II Anerk: Nr.8

There were several reports of the crash on my uncle's personnel file with conflicting times of the loss, so I put both times on my query.

The map and geographical information provided by mhuxt was also very helpful.

Norma: I was in touch with Fensch a few years ago and have fuller details of his kills. Perhaps you would like to send me a Private Message?
