Air attack on Commando raid 4th June 1942
During the night 3/4th June an abortive Commando raid (Operation BRISTLE) was launched against a radar site at Plage-Ste-Cecile (between Boulogne and Le Touquet). During the return voyage at around dawn the naval force was attacked by fighters which damaged two Motor Launches and one Motor Gunboat, killing one Commando and two naval personnel and wounding another 19, with only the arrival of RAF fighters preventing further damage and losses. I've yet to identify the Luftwaffe unit, but in view of the location they were presumably a dawn patrol from JG26, but there is no mention in Caldwell's book. Anybody have any idea of the identity of either the Luftwaffe or RAF units involved?
