HE111P G1+DT

Dear all,
I need your help
I'm serching any information about the HE111P Wehrke Nummer 2822 G1+DT fallen in the St. George Channel, near St David's Head, Pembrokenshire, Wales on 29th september 1940.
The crew is formed :

Pilot: Oberleutnant Hans Kohler (MIA in the sea)
Observer (?): Feldwebel Horst Birkholz (born 6 september 1916 Posen, buried at Glencree (Ireland) grave 7)
Funker (?): Uffiziere Rudolf Adolf Firchau (born 13 july 1915 Tuchel, buried at Glencree (Ireland) grave 20)
Motorist (?): Felwebel Martin Lippert (MIA in the sea)
Gunner (?): Gefreiter Franz Gunther (born 24 august 1918 St. Bernard, buried at Glencree (Ireland) grave 31)

the HE is from III/KG55 Greif but I don't know the gruppe: the 8 or 9?
the informations are confused.
I would like to know also if is possiblo to know more about the crew in particular about Oberleutnant Hans Kohler and if is possible to know who have shot down this HE111.
Also I would like to know if is possible to presume the colors of this G1+DT.

Hello Passo Stanco , I believe the HE111 was from 9 Staffel . The "kill" was shared between Pilot Officers Paul Mayhew and Georg Nelson-Edwards of No.79 Sqn .
Feel free to PM me .

What about Dimsie Stones (Sqdn/Ldr Donald Stones DFC and bar) ?
It was a one third share .

Can confirm that Stones was credited with a third share on this date and the crew functions were Köhler pilot, Birkholz Observer, Firchau WOp, Lippert Flight Engineer, Günther gunner. Target was Gloucester, Staffel was 9 and another He 111 from 9./KG 55 returned damaged by a fighter and with wounded crew

That is right Chris , P/O Stones was also credited for this Kill . The ORB from No.79 Sqn from that day shows Mayhew , Edwards and Stones as the pilots involved in this action .
I have a photo of Fw Host Birkholz but sadly the quality is poor .

So you are now quoting from the 79 Sqn. ORB having originally listed the combat as shared with two pilots.
If you are now quoting the ORB what about Bailey's and Peters involvement or have you written them out, after all Peters made the supreme sacrifice.

Passo Stanco, regarding the colour scheme of the GI+DT Sqdn/Ldr Stones described it in correspondence as having a black fuselage and wings (the night bombing colour scheme ) and also mentioned that what looked like three red horizontal bars on the Fin but in the heat of the moment he could not describe it further. I am inclined to think that is what he saw Chris, but he could not fully describe it due to the hectic activity. But he did say ....on the tail fin as opposed to the rudder.
