I have found a photo with a number 49 on the nose. The arrow marking is an arrow cut in half, lengthwise, with a round, black ball with a wing. Inside the arrow portion are the words 'Three Feathers III." It was with the 500th Bomb Group.
Can you make out the writing under the dark window? Hope this helps, Ed |

The photo of the plane on the link was taken a little later (after 53 missions). On this link, Z-square 50 is called "Fancy Detail", and the pilot was Braden.
