Re: ME 109 Rheims September 1944
A most interesting shot, Waldo Pepper:
Bf 109 G-6/AS W.Nr. 162080 "RW+EC" "Grüne 9", Stab JG 11 (?), Reims-Champagne, Fall 1944. Source: AI2(G) Serial 255. Was it found on a website or is it from your collection ? Whatever, many thanks! Cheers Marc |

Great photo!

At least NAGr.13 lost two more 109 of this Werknummerblock (162 066 and 162 067). Regards, Heuser |

What color is that aircraft?? Is that 76 from nose to tail?

AI2(g) precise G-6/R2 .... fitted with MW50 and cameras! I don't see AS half-moon cowling and since the gun through are closed there is no need of "normal" G-6 beule .. this is a G-6, not a G-6/AS. Hence a G-6/R2 like described in AI2(g) report, when it was described as a G-6 in II./NAG 102 accident report. Regards, Franck. |
Re: ME 109 Rheims September 1944
Many thanks, Heuser, for tying this unit's machine down. Franck, we do see very clearly the curvature of the upper gun and engine cowling. Obviously a G-6/R2/AS...

Re: ME 109 Rheims September 1944
Hi Marc,
Since that machine was in use in II./NAG102 before the fact that NAGr.13 got machines with close WNr. is a mere coincidence. But, in the mean time, I don't see any other possible NAGr. in France than NAGr. 13 during that period + 3./NAGr.14 Under Satb NAGr.13 command. I see nothing, sorry, and I'm surprise two reports name it a G-6 .. Regards, Franck. |
Re: ME 109 Rheims September 1944
Hello Guys,
seems that it was an AS-bird, when it was captured. There is an ULTRA-report on a message from 4./(F) 123 to (F)/123 dated 13. August 1944, on receiving seven rebuilt "Me 109 G6 U2 R2 with ASM-engine" from the Werft. Werknummer 162080 was among them. The a/c were equipped with "methy-alcohol water injection", Rb 50/30 and one engine-mounted MG 151. They were prepared for FuG 16z and FuG 25a, but did not have the radios themselves. HTH Carl |

NOTE: Source believes this was from 4.(F)/123 and was almost certainly to (F) 123. |
Re: ME 109 Rheims September 1944
Perfect, so this was an a/c of 4.(F)/123 - "KOHLA" is obviously Oblt. Werner Kohla, Staffelkapitän of this unit.
