Aurcraft codes for Condor Legion Aces.
Hi all,
In my group https://www.facebook.com/groups/194122427854540/, someone posted a photo of what was thought to be Werner Mölders 109 tail fin showing 10 kills. However, someone else stated this is not Mölders aircraft and the full code is 6-19 (not 6-79). Taking the fact that there were only 4 (possibly 5) pilots who scored 10 or more victories with the Condor Legion, does anyone know the codes of the aircraft flown by these 5 pilots: Werner Mölders, 14 victories, 6-79 Wolfgang Schellmann, 12 victories, 6-51? Harro Harder, 11 victories. Peter Boddem, 10 victories, 6-10 or 6-12? Walter Oeseau, 9 or 10 victories? Steve |
Re: Aurcraft codes for Condor Legion Aces.
Hi Steve,
I know the someone else, perfectly. He is right, it's 6-19. Just compare victory bars style with other known pictures of 6-19 and with 6-79. 6-19 was nicknamed "Holzhauge". ... As far I know the pilot(s) is (are) unknown. me109.info/web.php?a=e&n=ua&f=997 Cheers. |
Re: Aurcraft codes for Condor Legion Aces.
Hello Steve. From what I have of Laureau's book Condor The Luftwaffe in Spain (unfortunately codes prior to 6o12 are not available to me) and Osprey's book on Bf109A-D -
Molders 14 flew 6o79. I have a note that he also flew 6o7, source unknown Schellmann 12 flew 6o51 (captioned as a D). I also have a profile of 6o47 captioned as a C and as having been flown by him (from Wings Palette). Harder 11 flew 6o36, also flew He112V9 8o2 and He51B 2o64 Boddem 10 flew 6o12. I have 6o10 flown by Fritz Mratzek and Gunther Lutzow (sources Wings Palette and a model kit, reliability of both unknown). Walter Oesau 9 codes not known Bertram 6o67 & 6o82, Seiler 6o30 & 6o32, Ensslen, Ihlefeld, all also with 9. Cheers Peter |

6o69 I believe, was one of Oesau's, at least from what I've dug up.

Re: Aurcraft codes for Condor Legion Aces.
Thank you very much to Cori, Peter and Franck for the information.
It appears it is my misunderstanding. I thought the aircraft victory markings showed the victories for a particular pilot. But it now appears in the Condor Legion, the victories were credited to the aircraft, meaning that the victories could be the combined scores of 2 or more pilots who flew that aircraft! Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to help me, always appreciated. |
