Max Stotz

Hello,

during the last 8 months of Max Stotz's life II./JG54 operated a mixed bag of Bf109/Fw190. Can anybody tell me when Stotz started flying the Fw190 ? (I think it was between December and June).

Cheers,

Michael

Hello,

the largest scoring gap during the last eight months of Stotz's life was between Feb and May 1943. I thinks this fits well with a possible conversion training.
Has it ever been clarified why so many older sources give a Stotz total of 189 kills ? Do they include 7 unconfirmed ? I only have an unconfirmed Blenheim and maybe a Potez in November 1939 in my Stotz collection.

Good evening,

can anybody tell me why a Maximilian Stotz score of 189 can often be read in older books ?
Or can anybody tell me if his final score was indicated in his newspaper death announcement ?

Kind regards,

Michael

Luftwaffe in Colour: From Glory to Defeat by Christophe Cony & Jean-Louis Roba (2017) acknowledges the total score of 182 found by Johannes Mathews & John Foreman (2015) in Luftwaffe Aces — Biographies and Victory Claims: 161 in the Bf109 and 21 in the Fw 190 which makes Stotz the top Austrian Messerschmitt ace.
