Erich Herfeld

Hello,

I'm trying to find more about the dogfight that resulted in the death of Oberfeldwebel Erich Herfeld outside Kristiansand on April 12th 1940. Is there a JG 77 Verein still active or other similar organisations that may have a picture of him?

regards,
Tormod

There is a fairly detailed account on pages 256/7 of 'Fledgling Eagles'

Thank you Chris, do you have the full title and author? I only come up with the "Fledging Eagles" by Christopher Shores (about LW school units) Is it the same book?, please excuse my ignorance :)

regards,
Tormod

Re: Erich Herfeld

It is the same book and is not about Luftwaffe training units but the War up to Battle of France

Hello Leo,

thanks for the info. Herfeld went down with his machine here and hit a small island east of Kristiansand (see map). Part of the propellor was later retrieved and are now in a private collection.

best regards,
Tormod
