I am pretty certain that this Corsair I (and others) were initially delivered to 1830 Sq which arrived to Quonset Point two months ahead of 1835 Sq. Quonset Point must have been a total beehive with RN Corsair Squadrons moving in to get converted to the type during a couple of months. I checked the Air Britain's The Squadrons and Units of the FAA and made a list of the single digit coded Squadrons (not in the Appendices, you need look them up in each Squadron). 1830 Sq used the digit 7 while 1835 Sq used the digit 5. 1830 Sq only used the Corsair I between June and August and when 1835 Sq arrived in August 1943 at least JT108 was handed over them. If you or anyone else would be interested in my single digit list, please send me a PM with your e-mail and I will send it over. No need for anyone else to do the same job all over again. :) If you don't have this AB book, I can just say buy it, it is an excellent update of Ray Sturtivant's previous book and worth every penny!! Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Hi Faenor & Kaiyan
The airfield is Amiens - looks like the Lysander wreck was removed off the airfield along with other Hurricanes and piled by the side of the hangars Regards - Tom |
