October 1936 German Naval Aircraft loss

hello all

would anyone be able to account for a possible loss of a German 'naval seaplane' that crashed 'off the Weser' in October 1936, with at least two crew rescued by a passing Irish ship.

Information comes from a 1982 magazine article on the irish ship.

Hello,

Take a look here - no "See" candidates for your date.

http://www.luftwaffe-zur-see.de/Seel...ahr1927-38.htm

Would help if you named the vessel - don't bother, it was the SS Lanahrone.

Here is a description of the event:

GERMAN AIRMEN SAVED BY BRITISH SHIP.

The rescue of two German airmen from a capsized seaplane is described by Captain T. Gillan, master of the steamship Lanahrone. In a report received by the owners, the Limerick Steamship Company, on Saturday. The Lanahrone was going to Bremen and was five miles from the River Weser when the crew's attention was attracted by a seaplane. Flying very low and pointing south, it dropped distress signals and a few miles farther on the crew sighted another seaplane capsized in the water. A boat was launched and with some difficulty the airmen were taken aboard. Both men were landed at Bremen. The captain and the crew of the British ship have been thanked by the German Air Ministry.

The Times. Monday, 26 October, 1936, p.21.

So the event occurred on Saturday, 24 October, 1936.

Col.

Thanks Col, I had searched British newspaper archives but no hits so didn't think ships name would have made a difference.

Lanahrone of course did this again in 1944

Or actually I don't think I searched that particular site as I found tge reference so late at night. I'll check later.

yep, it was in three newspapers from Oct 1936, much shorter copy than the Times piece above. I'd searched from 1937 onwards the other day for other references, but much later then found the 1936 rescue mention. Sorted!
