Photo Albatros D.III
Hello,
Currently on ebay are some interesting photos of an Albatros D.V of Kest 5? That is one is marked D.V, but would have thought D.Va and I have seen the machine with the Dragon markings described as a D.III (OAW) at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...wAAOSw9dtec14j and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...8AAOSwq9Zec1sZ and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...MAAOSww7Fec2Dm and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...sAAOSw0blec1~M and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...IAAOSwD-5ec2HT and: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Fot...YAAOSw0BVec2o3 Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo Albatros D.Va
Hi Clint,
Thanks for the list ; some of them were published in the book Albatros Aircraft of WWI Volume 4 by Jack Herris (Aeronaut Books) link 1 : Albatros DIII (OAW) of Kest 5 link 2 : Albatros DIII (OAW) of Kest 5 link 3 & 4: Albatros DIII (OAW) 1671/17 of Kest 5 ; pilot was Max Rosenkrantz Bertrand |
Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Hi Bertrand,
Thank you for the reply and the corrections. I shall retitle this thread accordingly. Unfortunately,I was guided by the fact that one of the images had D.V written on the back and while I own Albatros Aircraft of WWI Vol.4, and have D.1671/17 listed in my database as photos 3 & 4 don't show a serial I didn't realise I'd previously seen those photos. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Not a very crystal clear picture Clint :)
Making a wild guess, I would say it at least looks like it begins with D.21 and the next two digits just might be 29, but I admit balancing on a very tight rope when writing that....:o Cheers Stig |
Re: Photo Albatros D.III
Hello Stig,
Cerainly worth contemplating and thanks for the response. If the numbers are as you suggest then D.2129/16 must be a strong contender. This becomes even more likely when it is factored in that D.2129/16 served with bMFS 2 according to Propellerbaltt 2 P.75 and what would be more logical than a tired D.III transferring from a frontline Bavarian unit to a Bavarian train unit.At the very least a strong possibility I would suggest. Thanks once again for your eyes. Reagards, Clint |
