Seems from river behind this might be Trondheim/Vaernes ?

Having been there two years ago, I would concur.

Cheers

Thanks for that info. Looking at contemporary photos of Trondheim/Vaernes there are similarities with the fjord and river. Yes, I agree. Thanks again for the prompt reply.

It is not Fl.Pl. Drontheim-Vaernes, I live approx 4 km from the end of the runway so I am sure about that. Maybe Bardufoss.. Could be the mountain 'Istind' at the right in the first pic.

Does this then mean Bardufoss (left part) and Trondheim/Værnes (right part)?

The left and right photos are from the same landscape photo, so here's the middle bit! The key to the problem are the mountains in the background. there's also a left-left photo if required.

Both the left and the right picture are not from vaernes. Istind could be the mountain on the left picture, and the river målselv is close to the sandstrip at Fossmoen, Bardufoss, which was used at least in April 1940 by the RAF. But it looks to be a lake in the 'right' picture - which does not fit with Bardufoss.. But for sure - you can rule out Vaernes.

Hi.

I have map drawings of all airfields in Norway per 1945. Will check.

Banak springs to mind, but as the airfield has been totally renewed and rebuilt I cannot be sure.

Andreas B

Gentlemen,
I am quite positive (99%) this is the Elvenes airfield in Salangen, Northern Norway.
