B-24M 44-50606, pilot Capt. Lloyd Allan 485th BG loss 22nd March 1945
Hi all
We identiefied crash site of Liberator (B-24M serial 44-50606) lost on March 22nd 1945 during air raid against Heiligenstadt M/Y in Austria. Plane belonged to 829th BS, 485th BG from Venosa AB. Lib was hit over target to engine no.3 and damaged headed to Russian lines to the East. Landed between front lines near KAMENIN village in southern Slovakia. This B-24 was reported shot down while on a mission to Vienna. Col. Cornett was captured by the Germans and survived the war. I suggest you look here:
