42-5564 P61A " Jukin Judy " 422 NFS

Hi,

This P61 Black Widow was shot down by the reargunner of a Ju87 on 26/12/1944. F/O Joseph Faila was wounded and bailed out. The pilot Lt Robert Danielson landed the damaged plane in an ammo dump. Parts of the plane have been recovered and were displayed during the Florennes (Belgium) airshow during June of this year.

Were did this plane crash ?

Best regards

Luc

Queen of the Midnight Skies: The Story of America's Air Force Night Fighters (Schiffer Military History) by Garry R. Pape & Ronal C. Harrison. PP.273-274 :
"...Robert Danielson and Joseph Fiala learned you had to pay the price for overshooting a Stuka. The squadron's history tells the thrilling story:
They wher shot up and Fiala Wonded. Thinking him unconscious and unable to bail out, Danny turned in a beautiful performance by landing in an ammo dump just inside the lines, near Marche. He was hurt in the process and found Fiala had vamoosed. He was later picked up safely, except for a wound in his leg.

Just back from sunny Italy... Pleased to see the Sun follows us back in Belgium.

The story of the Jukin'Judy was detailled at the Florennes Airshow. Yes, it was! Abée, SE of Huy.
I was pretty lucky/happy to display those artefacts from the very first US aircraft officially landed on A-78.

FIALA

Sounds like an Ju87D from NSGr. 2. At that night they bombed with 18 "Nachtstukas" targets in that aera.

For those who missed the exhibit at Florennes, here a picture of the damaged airbrake of the P-61, made by the Stuka.
Enjoy.
