After the War, a lot of people wrote Rooney off as a one trick pony for the "Andy Hardy" series, but he proved them wrong with roles such as you reference in "The Bridges at Toko-Ri", a great flick.

BTW, he did his part in WWII entertaining troops everywhere.

I always wondered if there was a place in North Korea named Toko Ri and it had bridges?

Great movie! One of my instructors at CAl Poly San Luis Obispo,CA flew Corsairs off carriers in Korea. He told the class that after his eyesight started to deteriorate he left the Navy and enrolled at Harvard. On the first day of class, after he had made his introductions, I lingered after class to talk about "The Bridges of Toko-Ri".
BTW William Holden's brother was a USN Hellcat pilot who was lost in action in the Pacific.
