Has anyone confirmed who might have shot down the Geschwader Kommodore of JG 53 off Gozo this day? Claims appear confused & Von Maltzahn baled out but was quickly rescued

It would appear that he was a victim of 185, 601 or 603 Sqns that evening. Between 1858 and 1934 hrs, a Do 24 with heavy escort was seen north of the island, presumably there to pick him up. Names I can see are
