523 FS (27th. FBG) ?????

Hello,

I have a german plane shot down by a

523 FS (27th. FBG) A-36A
Claim made in the MTO by US aircraft, 1/Lt. Edmund D. Griffin.

I am so sorry, if this is a stupid question, but what does this mean?
Normally I am "a Luftwaffe man"!

Is it possible to find a picture of 1/Lt. Griffin?

27th Fighter-Bomber Group, parent unit of 522nd, 523rd & 524th Fighter-Bomber Squadrons.
