Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Dear Unikum,
Thanks a lot again for your help. Many of the pics you kindly post are already on Flickr, but not all. I discovered with a huge pleasure: - the 13./JG 300 Bf 109 G-14 in Reinslehen, October 1944. - the possibly JG 300 "Schwarze 14", another of the Bf 109 G-14 surrounding Ju 290 W.Nr. 110 162 "9V+EK" at Salzburg Maxglan airfield in May 1945. - and the fine Erla G-14 with the GI posing in front. Really a G-14 evening here in Geneva. Thanks for that, Unikum, and thanks for helping me expand this visual encyclopedia of late war Bf 109's. Marc |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi there Gang,
Having now more then 2'000 referenced late war Bf 109 pics available on Flickr, I just created new sets for grouping by airfields all those Bf 109 pics. This will make it easier to cross reference the photos. Given time, it'll probably allow us to identify more machines. I seize this opportunity to thank you all for your continuous support and inputs; we're really building up together a visual reference tool which I hope will help all researches. Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Excellent, Unikum:
Here is what I can say towards your latest attachments: 1. Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. unknown "Schwarze 3 or 8", unit and location unknown, Germany, Autumn 1944. I'm pretty sure the RK pilot can be identified. Who knows more? 2. Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. unknown, "Weisse 7", 13./JG 5, Sola, Summer 1945. 3. Bf 109 G-6/R6 W.Nr. and unit unknown, Hangelar (?), 5 March 1944. A very interesting shot thanks to the caption I read only partially. Who can help reading more? 4-5. Bf 109 G-10 W.Nr. unknown "Weisse 1", I. or III./JG 27, Germany, Spring 1945. The case for a G-10 is won by the 56 liters oil tank filler cap, clearly in the high position. 6.Bf 109 G-10 W.Nr. unknown "Weisse 1", II./JG 52, Neubieberg, Summer 1945. Thank so much Unikum. Looking forward for your next posts! Marc |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hello Marc,
let me add some thoughts on the fotos in your last posting: #1 shows a rather scruffy Bf109 with a retrofitted Erlahaube. So this is a Bf109G-6, not a G-14. Most interesting is the old-fashioned high antenna-mast, something I have not seen yet with Erlahauben. As for the pilot: I can't see a Ritterkeuz. Are my eyes getting old and tired? #3 I don't want to act like a wisenheimer, but I'd like to point at the fact, that there never was something like a Bf109G-6/R6. This labeling is pure fiction invented a long time ago by some writers and since then repeated over and over again. There is no common agreement how to name such a/c, I myself use "Bf109G-6 with Rüstsatz VI" (or "Rüstsatz 6" oder "Gondelwaffen"). The writing on the back of the foto may be "In xxxxxx Liebe" "xxxx Mann" München, d. 5.3.44" what may be translated as "Forever loving you" "your husband" "Munich, 5th March 1944" Time and location point towards an aircraft from JG3 which was in southern Bavaria in early sping 1944. #6 is indeed one of the IIJG52 aircraft flown over to Neubiberg to surrender. As you can see, it has an overpainted "PIK-AS" shield on its cowlings and therefore is one of the former IJG53 planes, incorporated into IIJG52, when IJG53 was disbanded in April 1945. HTH Carl |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hallo Charles,
Many thanks for your precisions. They are much appreciated. Considering the denomination issue for "Gondelwaffen", I will choose from now on your "Rüstsatz VI" mode. Thanks for reading the writing and proposing a unit! Cheers Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi there gang,
and again a new riddle to solve: I just found those three pics on Historical-media.com' latest online auction: http://www.historical-media.com/einz...2012.10.1.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...n/photostream/ As I don't see the air scoop under the left windscreen, I tend to think this might be a G-5/AS. Notice the total lack of any markings and the highly waxed and polished finish conferring a dark hue to the plane's camouflage. Though not as dark, this machine makes me think of Oblt. Manfred Dieterle's Bf 109 G-6/AS W.Nr unknown "Grüne 5", 2./Erg. JG 2, photographed at Ludwigslust in December 1944 and then again in May 1945 at Hagenow-Land. http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...57625383083572 Any ideas as to where? And which unit? Thanks in advance Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Dear all!
I just uploaded a serie of new pics of late war Bf 109's. High among them is a shot of crash landed Bf 109 K-4 "Gelbe 20", III./JG 53: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream I remember the authenticity of this picture has been disputed because of the "body" seen in the cockpit which condition did not match the thoroughly degraded state of the wreck, with its swastika already hacked out, among others... IMHO, the picture is genuine, and there is a person sitting for the pic in the cockpit who moved his head at the wrong moment... Any suggestions? Any more details as to which particular machine? Any W.Nr.? Good challenges there to start a great 2013;-)) Cheers Marc |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi gang,
Another issue arises: where was this well known serie shot? My current guess is Erla Leipzig. Any confirmation would be much appreciated! http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...in/photostream Cheers Marc |
