JU-88 D-5 without gondola
A search through my library uncovered the attached picture, from "Luftwaffe im Focus" #1, p.30., captioned as "A6+CH" of
FAGr 120. A high resolution scan of the photograph leads me to believe that the wk.nr. - 4 digits in white at the top of the fin - definitely ends with a 7 and that the shape of the other numbers is not inconsistent with "008" - i.e. the number may well be 0087 - could this be the same aircraft ? http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/iceland.html I've obviously got something against gondolas, unless they are in Venice ! |
Re: JU-88 D-5 without gondola
Hello again Falcon04;
Yes this aircraft is likely the same 430087 A6+CH as was shot down here (see on Flyvrak). As a matter of fact I own a piece of skin (showing part of code A6+) same side as is visible in this photo. The thin overspray is RLM 76 (paint sample from skin confirms that)! However what this photo does not show is the Iceland map on the other side of the fin. I tried attaching a photoshop image of sister aircraft - also gondolaless - but file size was to large and the smaller format destroyed all the fine details! I have nothing against Gondolas, neither in Med area or here. Thanks for pointing out where this photo is published, I had not seen it before (any photo credit given?) besides my ref to D-1 variant was just regarding no airbrakes, the C-6 had them also removed. Cheers ed |

The photo is included in an article about Hptm. Friedrich Heidenreich of I./(F) 120 ( by Walter Mattheisen ), and is credited to "Sammlung Mattheisen" )
