Who is the RK officer?

Any ideas who the RK-officer is in the centre? No dates or clues apart from it looks like he has a Bulgarian badge

So can anyone else agree or disagree with these 2 names?

Re: Who is the RK officer?

Far be it for me to claim any expertise in German aircrew and aircraft, but:

a) what aircraft type are they standing under? Bf 110?
b) the man on the left has the Deutsches Kreuz, presumably in Gold
c) the man next to him is holding a bottle (wine or Champaign)
d) the man next to him is the RK holder, I am guessing the pilot

My guess is these three are the crew of a Bf 110 being congratulated for a significant sortie number, or a significant victory total. Earliest possible date would be late 1941 (DKG created Sept 1941 [Wikipedia]), but more likely 1942 or 43.

But I could be wrong. (horrors!)

Enjoy!

Frank.

Chris,

To me it's neither Ihlefeld nor Gollob - perhaps that DKiG holder on the left may offer a clue. I'm not even sure that these are fighter pilots at all. From the outfits worn by the officers and NCOs in this photo I would date it second half of 1942 or later.

Sorry I cannot offer more.

Best

Jochen

He bears some resemblance to Nowotny.

Re: Who is the RK officer?

Looks like he has a Bulgarian Pilots badge next to his EK1, which might narrow down the search.

Frank.

A Ju 87, I think and probably a D-model from the type of underwing rack.

I believe that's the wing of a Ju 87D-5.
