Photo Albatros D.II
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of an Albatros D.II at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Foto-3-Fl...sAAOSwp7de0352 It has some form of Bavarian emblem forward of the fuselage cross. Has anyone seen this machine before and able to say what the serial of the machine was? Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo Albatros D.II
Clint the crest is very similar to the one on Robert Dyke's D.II (LVG) Jasta 16b, the old Kingdom of Bavaria arms; that one had a smaller diamond and plain fuselage cross.
The serials on these darker-varnished machines were often not marked or not clear. Nick |
Re: Photo Albatros D.II
Hello Nick,
Thanks. Do you have the serial for Robert Dycke's D.II (LVG) at all? Edit I've just looked in OTF 26 Vol.2 P.130 and P.134 and seen the photos. The symbol is very similar. But of course no serials. So I would now welcome any information on the serials of Robert Dycke's Albatros D.IIs. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Albatros D.II
Hi Clint.. this was on Wings Palette but I can't vouch for it.
It looks like a dark camouflage in the photo though. Nick http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/415/pics/59_97.jpg |
Re: Photo Albatros D.II
Hello Nick,
Thanks. If you do an image search on google (which I don't like using, but needs must) you can see a better photo of D.1069/16 from a facebook page (this asks you to log in, but the words cold day in hell come to my mind).Nonetheless, you can see from the photo on google that the fuselage appears to be natural wood as per your link, with the normal wing camouflage. Not sure about the dark green rudder though. But then the artist could well have other information which confirms this. Regards, Clint |
Re: Photo Albatros D.II
Clint I saw the photo, fuselage IS plain varnished plywood, rudders could be in camouflage colour sometimes; I think the original photo is just very poor quality.
